2012 Award of Excellence in Adaptive Use – Atlanta Urban Design Commission

Centered on the campus of the University of Alabama, the NOAA National Water Resources Center serves as the focal point for University’s academic efforts in supporting severe weather prediction and hydrologic research in the Southeast. Receiving LEED Gold certification in July 2014, the NOAA National Water Center serves as a catalyst for the Integrated Water Resources Science and Services (IWRSS) partnership. The 65,000 square foot facility was designed specifically for major programmatic functions including an Operations Center with Situation Rooms; a Geo-Intelligence Laboratory; Collaborative Science and Software Engineering Studio; and a Distance Learning Classroom and Auditorium. PES was able to demonstrate our understanding of the requirements to the Owner from bid phase to construction as well as coordinating with the project team using clash analysis tools during design and reviewed constructability with the General Contractor and Fabricator to understand irregular building requirements.
