PES provided the structural design for the new addition to the Fulton County Behavioral Health Crisis Center, the first publicly funded facility of its kind in the County. This critical behavioral health resource was constructed as an expansion of the existing Oak Hill Child, Family & Adolescent Center campus and is designed to provide comprehensive, around-the-clock crisis intervention services.
The new facility includes 24 inpatient beds and 16 observation chairs and is expected to serve over 5,000 individuals annually. Its program was developed to address a growing need for accessible mental health care while alleviating pressure on emergency departments and other healthcare systems.
A central feature of the center is its use of a “living room” care model, which allows individuals with lower acuity needs to receive timely support in a more therapeutic, less clinical environment. This model ensures that crisis beds remain available for those requiring the most intensive care.
PES provided structural engineering solutions tailored to the specialized needs of a behavioral health environment, with an emphasis on safety, durability, and flexibility. Structural systems were designed to support the center’s complex program, including secured access zones, patient observation areas, clinical spaces, and communal treatment areas. Security and occupant well-being were prioritized throughout the design, with structural considerations that support safe staff movement and patient care.
