Best Large Healthcare Project-IIDA Georgia Chapter

PES has played a vital role in advancing the infrastructure of Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the nation’s most essential public healthcare institutions. As the tenth largest public hospital in the United States and a designated Level I trauma center located in the heart of Atlanta, Grady Memorial serves a diverse and high-acuity patient population, making the integrity and adaptability of its facilities critically important.

Our long-standing collaboration with Grady Memorial Hospital encompasses a series of complex and transformative projects aimed at expanding care capacity, modernizing medical facilities, and reinforcing the hospital’s structural resilience. Among these efforts is our ongoing work on the new Burn Center Building
B/E, a cutting-edge facility specifically designed to address the specialized needs of burn patients. PES is closely involved in delivering structural solutions that support advanced treatment environments while meeting stringent safety and performance standards.

PES also contributed significantly to the structural design of bed expansions across multiple wings and levels of the hospital. This includes work on Levels 9 through 12 of the C/D Wing, where increased patient capacity was achieved through carefully coordinated design strategies. Additional expansions were implemented in the A/B/E Wing, specifically across Levels 7E, 9 through 12E, and 14 through 15, allowing the hospital to accommodate a growing demand for inpatient services without compromising on spatial efficiency or patient comfort.

When the facility faced structural challenges due to flood damage, PES was called upon to lead the renovation and restoration process. Our expertise ensured that damaged areas were not only repaired but also fortified against future risks, restoring essential hospital functions while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.

In support of the hospital’s behavioral health initiatives, PES directed the structural renovation and expansion of the Medical Behavioral Unit on Levels 13 and 14. This effort prioritized the creation of safe, secure, and therapeutic environments tailored to the unique needs of patients requiring specialized behavioral care.

Furthermore, PES provided structural solutions for the relocation of critical medical services, including the Third Floor Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound units, and the high-dose radiation facilities associated with linear accelerator
(LINAC) technology. These relocations required precise coordination to uphold radiation safety protocols and maintain operational continuity during transitions.
