Mary Helvie

Originally from Dahlonega, GA, Mary’s path to structural engineering began with a passion for architecture and a chance encounter with the field during a high school leadership conference. That experience sparked a lasting interest in how thoughtful design and structural systems work together to shape the built environment.

Mary earned both her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Georgia Tech, where she developed a strong technical foundation and a growing interest in sustainable, resilient design. She began her career at PES as an intern in the summer of 2025, gaining hands-on experience and further solidifying her interest in collaborative, high-performance structural design.

Now a full-time Design Engineer, Mary brings curiosity, drive, and a collaborative mindset to her work, with a particular focus on thoughtful problem-solving and reducing the carbon impact of structures. She was drawn to PES by the team’s enthusiasm and diversity, as well as the firm’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Outside the office, Mary enjoys skating in roller derby matches, reading across all genres, and dreaming up plans for her future home library — complete with a sliding ladder.
