PES led the structural design for the new, cutting-edge Outpatient Care Center at Children’s Healthcare
of Atlanta’s (CHOA) Town Center campus. This modern, three-story facility spans 48,187 SF and establishes a new standard for pediatric healthcare in Cobb County, providing a full spectrum of specialized services in a single,
accessible location.
The building’s structural system was carefully engineered to deliver long-term performance, adaptability, and cost efficiency. PES designed the facility using a steel-framed superstructure complemented by bar joist roof framing with metal deck sheathing. Elevated floors consist of composite steel with concrete slabs on metal decking, offering both strength and versatility to accommodate specialized medical functions. Interior spaces are defined by non-load-bearing light-gauge metal stud walls, while the entire structure is anchored by shallow foundations
designed to meet local geotechnical conditions and streamline construction.
Strategically located in Cobb County, Children’s at Town Center serves as a comprehensive pediatric hub, consolidating critical healthcare services under one roof. The facility offers a wide range of specialties, including urgent care, sports medicine, audiology, nephrology, endocrinology, ENT, general surgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation, among others. By bringing these services closer to where families live, the center enhances convenience for patients and reduces the need to travel to
CHOA’s main hospital campuses.
