PES led the structural design for Northside Hospital’s newest development – a dynamic, three-story medical office building encompassing 64,800 SF. This project was conceived to blend forward-thinking healthcare delivery with architectural and structural innovation, resulting
in a modern facility that prioritizes both performance and patient care.

The structural system of the building was meticulously engineered to deliver long-term strength, versatility, and resilience. A steel-framed skeleton forms the primary structural support, providing the flexibility needed for
healthcare-specific interior layouts. Composite steel beams paired with concrete slabs were utilized for the elevated floors, ensuring high load-bearing capacity and long-term durability. The roof was designed using steel joists, chosen for their efficiency in spanning large areas while maintaining structural integrity. Infilled cold-formed steel stud walls further enhance the building’s enclosure system, supporting vertical and lateral stability while allowing for efficient space planning within the building envelope.

At the foundation level, the structure was constructed on a slab-on-grade system supported by shallow foundations, an approach selected for its proven reliability and adaptability to site conditions. This foundation strategy ensures the structural stability required for a
facility of this scale and usage, while supporting a streamlined construction process.
