PES was entrusted with delivering the complete structural design for the major expansion of the North Wing at Henry Medical Center. The ambitious five-story addition spanned approximately 170,000 SF and represented a pivotal enhancement to the hospital’s infrastructure. The structure was designed using a cast-in-place concrete frame system, chosen for its strength, resilience, and fire resistance – qualities essential for healthcare environments where performance and safety are paramount. Beneath this framework, an auger cast pile foundation system was implemented to address the unique geotechnical conditions of the site and ensure long-term structural integrity.

Beyond the hospital wing expansion, PES also engineered two integral components that support the overall growth of the medical campus. A 600-car precast concrete parking deck was designed to accommodate the growing demands of both staff and patient parking, incorporating structural durability with rapid construction timelines. Additionally, PES provided the full structural design for a 28,500 SF Education Building. This facility served as a central hub for staff training, continuing education, and community programs, further extending the hospital’s role as a center for both healing and learning.

The expanded North Wing was developed with a focus on integrating state-of-the-art healthcare services. PES worked closely with the hospital and project stakeholders to ensure that the structure would support advanced cardiac care and a comprehensive suite of outpatient diagnostic services. The addition also included dedicated facilities for women’s health, such as antepartum and postpartum rooms, a fully modernized labor and delivery suite, and a newborn nursery. Central to these services is a fully equipped neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), carefully designed to meet the sensitive structural requirements of life-sustaining medical equipment while ensuring comfort and safety for patients and families.
